TOP 40/POP NEWS: U2 fans show up in support to fight AIDS through music.
During a Superbowl commercial, the band from Ireland, U2 premiered a brand new song off their upcoming cd which comes out this April, and as an added bonus to all U2 fans, they joined with Bank of America and the day of the Superbowl, for 24 hours, they made their new single “Invisible” available on ITunes free of charge. As another bonus, for every download of the song, Bank of America would donate $1 to U2’s AIDS charity “RED” giving up to $8 million dollars! When the final tally came in U2 had collected over 3$ million dollars for their charity. Bono cofounded RED IN 2006 to help fight AIDS. Great work U2!
“We’re taking all the energy around the Super Bowl and interest in what U2’s doing and flipping it into the fight against HIV AIDS,” Bono told USA Today recently. He also said that the track, which bursts with optimism as Bono sings about unity in a relationship, was not the first official single from the album. “We have another song we’re excited about to kick off the album,” he said. “This is just sort of a sneak preview – to remind people we exist.”

ROCK “N” ROLL NEWS: “The Day the Music Died” Remembered.
It was 55 years ago last Monday that a deadly plane crash took the lives of three of the biggest names in Rock N Roll at the time: Ritchie Valens, the Big Bopper and Buddy Holly. Look back at Rolling Stone magazine’s 1969 feature on the Day the Music Died: http://rol.st/1fpmjVF.
The day became known as, “The day the music died”, because it left such a void in music when these three talented guys were no longer here to bring life to the music world. It was even made famous by singer, Don McLean, in a song called, “American Pie”.

ALTERNATIVE NEWS: “Dookie” at 20, Rolling Stone magazine interviews Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong.
In a recent story in Rolling Stone magazine, writer David Fricke interviewed Punk Rocker, Billie Joe Armstrong for a story about the 20th Anniversary of the debut of his band Green Day’s very first album on a major label, Dookie in 1993. It was a Blockbuster album to say the least.
“Back then, I just wanted to write songs I could be proud of and be able to play in five years,” Green Day singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong says, recalling his state of mind exactly 20 years ago – February 1st, 1994, the day his band’s third album and big-record-deal debut, Dookie, was released.
6 months after the release of Dookie he got married to his girlfriend Adrienne who he is still married to, and in 1995 they had their first son.
“This is what happened: Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool became overnight rock stars. Dookie rapidly went platinum, then double platinum, ultimately selling more than 16 million copies worldwide and firing Green Day out of their hometown hardcore-punk underground in Berkeley, California, into arenas and stadiums. With 11 studio albums, including the 2004 multi-platinum opera, American Idiot, Green Day are now the most successful punk band in the world.”
