Why?
1 in 30 children are currently homeless in Wake County. That is approximately 7,000 children. A 28% increase since 2016.
75% of children experiencing homelessness are behind in math and reading when they start Kindergarten.
70% of CATCH children have never been in any type of child care or received Pre-K education.
60% of CATCH children who have been assessed have a speech delay at age three.
Project CATCH is committed to ending the cycle of homelessness locally. CATCH stands for Community Action Targeting Children who are Homeless and is a collaborative case management model completely unique to Raleigh, North Carolina. This amazing organization provides services and advocates for children experiencing homelessness. They work with 11 area homeless shelters and programs to ensure that they are able to correctly identify and address the specific needs of the children in their care.
$250 provides wrap around case management for one CATCH child for an entire year. This includes developmental screenings, full psychosocial assessment, connection with medical and mental health services, educational support and advocacy, connection with housing resources, basic needs such as food and clothing, diapers, back to school supplies, child care, camps and after-school activities. Currently one case manager is only able to serve 450 children per year.
Now, Project CATCH needs our help. They are looking to raise $100,000 in order to greater meet the needs of our community. The hard truth is that the more work that Project CATCH does, the more need they discover.
MLE was honored to provide the entertainment for this event. We hope to see you next year!
