Congratulations to Leath & Rachel!
This is NOT one of our video productions by our videographer, Bertos. However, when I was asked to host Rachel and Leath’s international style wedding, I asked them if they wouldn’t mind Nathan and I taking some clips with our iPhones and small camera. This way, we could give our clients an idea of the different types of weddings we host. They were so kind to say yes! This is a video from their wedding, September 13th 2014 at Nassau Valley Vineyards in Lewes, DE. We think you’ll see why we specialize in unique events!
How did we decide on the music?
Part of our services include working closely with each couple to select music for their unique event. Rachel, Leath and I met before the wedding to discuss what types of music would go well with their “Cuban” theme, yet still appeal to their “international” wide audience! Plus, since they both grew up playing piano, they also wanted to incorporate some classical music.
For the pre-ceremony, they selected music including, “Prelude in C Major” by Edward Aldwell and “Nocturne in E-Flat Major, Op.9, No.2. While this was a Cuban themed wedding, we decided to play Cuban music only for cocktail hour. This way, we could play music for the theme, but not necessarily have it run the entire evening. The Cuban playlist included songs from the Buena Vista Social Club, as well as, artists such as Celia Cruz and Tito Puente. To transition from the outside Cocktail hour to the reception inside, their family decided to include one of their favorite traditions “hit the Piñata”. Their guests had a blast watching batters take their swings, while we played, “Jarabe Tapatio” by Maraiachi Nuevo Jalisco (aka The Mexican Hat Dance). Such a blast! Since her family is a mix of different cultures, we wanted everyone to have a great time dancing to a variety of music ranging from Top 40, Motown, Big Band, Latin and even the “Hora”. Well, we think we did a good job because everyone seemed to have a great time! This group of family and friends were a ton of FUN!
For their first dance, Leath and Rachel chose, “Brujeria” by El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico. However, since they wanted to choreograph a special dance to the song, they asked me if I could slow the tempo of the song to fit their dance moves. Yet, since they needed to practice, they needed a copy of the new version prior to the wedding. No problem! I changed the song from 120 BPMs to 110 BPMs in garage band and sent them the file so they could practice. Well, I think you’ll agree it was a perfect 10!
What was my favorite part of the wedding?
The entire crowd singing “The Rainbow Connection” by Kermit. Unfortunately, no one got this on video – including us! It was just one of those special times when everyone was “caught in the moment”. Between the sing along and their own vows written for each other, Nathan had to tell me to get it together! In my defense, I don’t think there was a person there without tears of happiness in their eyes for this amazing couple.
Thank you so much to Leath & Rachel, their family and friends for an amazing night! Also thanks to our newest beginner DJ, Nathan Barta for all his help on the ones and twos! He’s becoming a pro!
