TOP 40/POP NEWS: U2 Make the Cover of Time Magazine!
As news rolled out over a week ago that the band, U2’s new album was available on iTunes for free, people took to social media to give their immediate reaction. What many did not initially know was that the band was compensated for their latest album and were paid about $100,000,000 for Apple to make U2’s album available on their brand new iPhone 6, and on iTunes.
U2 were asked by Time magazine what news stories made the biggest first impact on their lives. For, Bono, it was Neil Armstrong walking on the moon, for Larry Mullen Jr., it was the death of Elvis on August 16, 1977, for The Edge, it was the breakup of the Beatles, and Adam Clayton did not give his favorite first memorable news item.
In the newest issue of Time the band said they plan to work closely with Apple to try to make sure lesser known bands have better access to the public to get paid not just for single songs on iTunes, but for whole albums they create. U2 and Apple are reportedly working on a new digital music format that “will prove so irresistibly exciting to music fans that it will tempt them again into buying music — whole albums as well as individual tracks.”
U2 also told Time about future new albums they plan to release which will most likely happen next year.
