ROCK “N” ROLL NEWS: AC/DC Back in Black and Ready to Rock!
Due to a stroke suffered by one of its founding members Malcolm Young, brother to lead guitarist, Angus Young, the future of AC/DC was in doubt. Now we have news from lead singer, Brian Johnson, that their album they were working on in Vancouver Canada with Malcolm when he became ill, is now completed.
Johnson mentioned that the band considered calling it, “Man Down”, in honor of their band mate, but said it was a bit negative and have no current title. This album is the band’s first since 2008’s “Black Ice”, and they have now announced they will go on with plans to tour behind the new album, in honor of the 40th Anniversary of their existence as a band!
“Johnson said the songs were “difficult” to record without founding rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, who is taking time off from the band to recover from an illness. Stevie Young – nephew of Malcolm and lead guitarist Angus Young – filled in during the sessions.”
“We miss Malcolm, obviously,” Johnson said. “He’s a fighter. He’s in [the] hospital, but he’s a fighter. We’ve got our fingers crossed that he’ll get strong again. . . Stevie, Malcolm’s nephew, was magnificent, but when you’re recording with this thing hanging over you and your work mate isn’t well, it’s difficult…But I’m sure he was rooting for us. He’s such a strong man. He’s a small guy, but he’s very strong. He’s proud, and he’s very private, so we can’t say too much. But fingers crossed he’ll be back.”
The band’s album is expected to be released late 2014 or possibly early next year.
“It’s been 40 years of the band’s existence,” he said. “So I think we’re going to try to do 40 gigs, 40 shows, to thank the fans for their undying loyalty. I mean, honestly, our fans are just the best in the world, and we appreciate every one of them. So we’ll have to go out, even though we’re getting a bit long in the tooth. You know what?! It’s been four years [since we last went out on the road], and I’m really looking forward to it.”

TOP 40/POP NEWS: Joe Perry of Aerosmith Talks Touring With Slash, His New Memoir Coming Out in October, and New Aerosmith Album!!
Aerosmith went on a notorious tour with Guns “n” Roses in 1988, but they will have more fun this time around since their tour mate guitarist, Slash, and his band will be with them. The summer tour begins Thursday (July 10) in Wantagh, N.Y.
“That was a long time ago,” guitarist Joe Perry tells Billboard with a laugh. At the time Aersmith were dealing with their new found hard fought sobriety, and Gun “n” Roses were doing the opposite. “There’s been a lot of water under the bridge. But having Slash on the bill… It’s gonna be a really good rock show. The competition is stiff as ever out there, but there’s a real vibe there. He’s got a really good band and they just finished their new album and they’re excited about getting out there with us. I think it’s gonna be great.”
Aerosmith is just back from an extended run in Europe, and Perry says the group considers all of its dates to be part of the continuing campaign for 2012’s “Music From Another Dimension!” — Aerosmith’s first studio album in eight years and a project the guitarist doesn’t feel has gotten its fair due. “My feeling is we didn’t really get a chance to tour much behind it,” Perry explains. “I still think it’s got some life to it, so we’ll probably play a few songs from it this summer and remind people it’s out there.”
Meanwhile, Aerosmith’s eyes are on the future. Frontman Steven Tyler hopes to finish a solo album that he’s been working on the past few years, and Perry is set to publish a memoir, “Rocks: My Life In and Out of Aerosmith” (with David Ritz) on Oct. 7, will be followed by a new Joe Perry solo album.

ALTERNATIVE NEWS: Linkin Park Back With New Album, “Hunting Party”!
“Hunting Party” is the title of Linkin Park’s sixth studio album, and it was released on June 17th on Machine Shop Recordings / Warner Bros Records. On their new album, the band finds themsevles reaching into their childhoods so they can realize their future.
“Multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Mike Shinoda explains the origin of the album, “I made some ‘alternative pop’ demos that sounded like they would fit in with what radio is currently playing. But then I came across a blog piece entitled “Rock Sucks Right Now and its Really Depressing.” It got me thinking…I ended up writing a response to it, and realized that what I had been working on wasn’t really what I wanted to be making.”
Shinoda became frustrated by the big amount of soft indie and pop on “rock” radio, it figured into his desire to lead Linkin Park in a harder-edged direction, innovating by reverting to the ethos of music that inspired them to become a band in the first place. “When I think of myself at 15,” Shinoda says, “I think of emotions being so raw and illogical. It hadn’t been watered down by experience. I liked music that was lyrically or sonically offensive—whatever would piss my parents off. We had to get back in touch with that in order to make this record.” “There’s an intimacy and an energy when we play together that I think this record captures,” says Shinoda of the album.”
The album is the band’s first self-produced endeavor, and their first to rely heavily on analog tape recording, with minimal changes. “The process of recording to tape and preserving the best performances was definitely one of the things that gives The Hunting Party its sound.” “It’s not a return to a style or sound; it’s a return to an ethos and inspiration—one that predates us coming together as a band. It’s the result of a hunger for music that we’re not hearing anyone doing.”
