ROCK “N” ROLL NEWS: Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin Has Enough New Material for a Potential Solo Album!
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, and guitarist for Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page, spent the past few years digging deep into his former band’s vault. It was in order to put together the group’s upcoming series of deluxe album reissues. The project is about to come to fruition and now Page says he is ready to get back to his solo career. “I play guitar at least once a week,” he says. “But now that the Zeppelin project is finished, I’ll be playing daily for the foreseeable future. I want to get myself back into playing shape. I’m a bit of a perfectionist about these things.”
The 1998 Page/Plant LP Walking Into Clarksdale was Page’s last album of new material, and 10 years prior to that he put out his only solo album, Outrider. “I’m an unusual character in the music business,” he says. “How many people do you speak with that say they only have one solo album?”
He now says, “I’ve got lots of material I’ve written on acoustic guitar,” he says. “Lots and lots. And right now I need to get myself up to speed, and that won’t take too long. But I don’t know what musicians I’d play with. I do have material and a passion for it. I need to work towards it, and now I can without all the other side issues going on.”
Page also spoke to Rolling Stone Magazine about a potential memoir. It would likely be a best seller, but Page shook off any possibility of it being published in his lifetime. “I’ve been approached by people about that,” he says. “I said to them, ‘I’ll consider doing a book, but I’d want it to be released posthumously.’ I’ve had quite a lengthy career in music, going back to when I was 13. I went through all of those changing times with the explosion of rock and roll and the undercurrent of blues and how it came into England. I’ve seen documentaries that were really well done, but I lived through it.”
So, why wait till he passes away before publishing it? “That way I can really tell the whole story of what really went on,” he says. “I wouldn’t want people messing around and stopping it with lawyers. No, no, no, no.”

TOP 40/POP NEWS: Coldplay’s New Album Ready to Be Released!
One week before its release today on May 19th, Coldplay’s sixth album, Ghost Stories, was streaming on iTunes. During the past few months, the group has led up their album’s release by putting out the single for “Magic,” the mournful and moody “Oceans,” the chilly “Midnight, the Avicii-assisted track “A Sky Full of Tears” and more ambient “Always in My Head.” The album contains nine new songs, and a deluxe edition of the album, available exclusively at Target, features three bonus tracks – “All Your Friends,” “Ghost Story” and “O (Part 2/Reprise)” – which, naturally, are not streaming on iTunes.
Leading up to the album’s release, NBC will air a special hour-long show – Coldplay: Ghost Stories – that will mix live footage with “360-degree imagery” this past Sunday, May 18th.
The group has booked only a handful of tour dates to support the album, one of which will take place the day the album hits shelves on May 19th– at L.A.’s 1,800-seat Royce Hall on the UCLA campus.

During 2013, the band completed three sold-out runs here and scored a smash hit with its debut single, “Pompeii.” The song has sold nearly three million downloads.

It will include shows at Canada’s two largest indoor arenas – Montreal’s Bell Centre (October 14) and Toronto’s Air Canada Centre (October 15) – and an evening at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati (October 17).”
Bastille’s debut album, Bad Blood, entered the chart at No. 1 in the U.K., and it was there that it closed out 2013 as the biggest selling debut album and the biggest selling digital album. It has sold more than 750,000 units in the U.S.

EDM NEWS:
According to a news story on EDM Sauce, Bassnectar’s new album will be released on June 24th. The new album is to be named ‘Noise Vs. Beauty,’ and will include fifteen news songs. The first track released is titled, “NOW” ft. Rye Rye, and the new second track is titled, Ephemeral.
Bassnectar wrote “Hello! Here is a gift of music! It’s called ‘Ephemeral’ (which means temporary, or “lasting only a day”…it’s the opposite of ‘Eternal’ and captures the essence of how precious every little moment is, and to enjoy it to the fullest) and i began working on it over ten years ago. Each song off the upcoming record is totally unique from the other songs, representing one specific point across a very diverse spectrum. There is of course hard vs soft, deep vs wild, ugly vs pretty, dark vs light, noise vs beauty, and so on This song represents one of the warmest, softest, sweetest directions of my love affair with music: when it is light, and whimsical, and emotional – and reminds me to be grateful for every last detail in life. You can do whatever you want with this song: share it with friends or family, or hoard it for yourself, whatever you feel. Thanks and Enjoy! – Lorin”

HIP HOP NEWS: Dr. Dre Lawsuit Against Death Row Records Dismissed!
Earlier this year Hip Hop Mogul, Dr. Dre, filed a lawsuit against his former label, Death Row Records. The suit was seeking $3.05 million in unpaid royalties, and now the claim has been dismissed by the judge. The rap producer is a self-proclaimed billionaire, as of a recent reported deal between his company Beats and Apple. “Apple reportedly purchased Beats for an estimated $3.2 billion. A video posted by Dre’s friend, actor and singer Tyrese, showed the rapper bragging that he was the “first billionaire in hip-hop” (though a rep for Forbes has disputed that claim). Currently, Dre ranks Number Two on Forbes’ list of the wealthiest rap artists; Puff Daddy leads the list with a net worth of $700 million. “The Forbes list just changed,” Tyrese said in his video. Dre added, “In a big way.””
Dre sought “over $676,000 in unpaid mechanical royalties (the license to sell the literal recording of a song), over $1.2 million for unpaid artist and producer royalties and close to $1.2 million for digital sales. A judge had suggested the last amount in 2010 after Dre lost a trademark infringement suit, according to Radar Online. The rapper claimed that the amount of the money he was asking for reflected a bump in royalties from 18 percent to 20.”
