So you know you’re a great DJ. You know you have what it takes. The problem is you can’t get your foot in the door of the night club, or event venue, where you want to DJ. This video is a quick tip to help you get your foot in the door. Believe it or not, this simple, nice gesture has gotten me on a number of preferred vendor lists.
What is it? Buy them a cup of coffee! Why?
1) It shows you are not thinking just about yourself! You are a team player. This will let them know you’re also a team player when you work an event.
2) It lets them know you understand they are busy – you are considerate of their time – and you appreciate their time. Event planners, club owners, event managers are extremely busy. Most of us in the events industry work all week planning and booking events, then we’re working the events on the weekend. Sometimes they may not even have a minute to grab lunch let alone coffee. I can’t tell you how many managers said, “You’re a life saver! Thank you for bringing me this coffee. I so needed it! Tell me a little more about your DJ company.”
3) In a way it also shows them you are interested in building a long term relationship. Most of these people are so busy, they don’t want to constantly spend time finding good DJs. They want to find one or a few they like to work with and keep them on their roster so they have one last thing to worry about. They want to feel confident not only are you a great DJ, but also you’ll be around for a while. By bringing them something like a cup of coffee you are starting the relationship and you are starting it off on a good note.
Many of you may think this is a silly DJ Tip. I can assure you this simple gesture has gotten my foot in the door to numerous venues. Mostly because these people can’t believe someone did something nice for THEM! The biggest way to become successful in any business is to put the shoe on the other foot.
