TOP 40/POP NEWS: A New Solo Album Set To Be Released by the Late Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees!!
The death of the third brother of Barry Gibb left a void in the music world when Robin Gibb passed away, and in the years between 2006-2008 prior to when he succumbed to cancer in May 2012, Robin recorded a whole slew of songs that were planned for a new solo album by the former Bee Gee.
With songs as famous as his hit as a Bee Gee, “I Started a Joke”, and others, Robin was an important member of the group bringing his vocal harmonies to the band, and now as a memorial and last standing tribute to the late Robin Gibb, Robin’s wife Dwina and their son R.J. are releasing his final album this September 30th on a cd titled, “50 St. Catherine’s Drive”, which was the name of his birthplace in the Isle of Man. It will include 17 songs. The album is apparently autobiographical in nature, and will be sure to offer Bee Gee fans everywhere something new to keep his memory alive.
One of the songs is a new version of 1966 Bee Gees tune “I Am the World,” which was originally a B side for the band’s “Spicks and Specks.” It is the fifth track on the new album.
“He was always fond of this song and decided to record a new version for this album,” Dwina Gibb tells Rolling Stone. “In the studio, Robin and [producer] Peter-John Vettese wrote new middle-eight sections, so it is now an extended version of the original. Robin loved playing with words, as in this song and also in ‘Holiday’ from the same era, where he sang, ‘You Are a Holiday.'”
