Have you ever wondered what’s the difference between a mixer and a DJ controller? After all, they look kind of similar. They both have channels, volume controls, mic inputs, XLR inputs – so what is the difference?
The mixer allows you to plug in numerous musical instruments and mix them all together (for example DJ, Drums, Guitar, Keyboard, Mics, Violin, etc). A DJ controller, controls how music is being mixed from DJ software (Serato, Traktor, etc.). Some controllers also have the option to mix music using CDs and Thumb drives. When using a mixer and DJ controller together, you can use the controller as the master volume control for all.
For example, when Nathan and Joe play DJ & Drums they both plug into the mixer. Then they set the volumes on each channel on the mixer. It won’t sound pleasing to the ear if the volume of his drum set is overpowering the music being played from the mixer. They leave the mixer at those settings the entire time they play. Using the master volume on the DJ controller, Joe can control the volume of the sound throughout an event. This way, Joe uses one volume control for both the music and the drums. As apposed to Nathan and Joe trying to adjust their volumes individually.
If you’re in the market to purchase a mixer, Nathan found this great deal on Amazon $199 from $345. It’s a Behringer XENYX X1222 USB. The 12 channel input allows us to play with numerous instruments if needed. The USB allows us to connect to our computer so we can easily record our mixes.

On Thursday February 25th, Michelle Lee Entertainment and The Carol Galvin Women’s Cancer Foundation held “Fashion For a Cause” at the Stratus Rooftop Lounge on top of Hotel Monaco in Philadelphia, PA. The event was to support two women whose families are battling cancer. The event included a special guest appearance by Meredith O’Connor and fashion show featuring lines by top designers, Elizabeth Delgado of Elizabeth Delgado Desings, Bill McCall of Utopia Armoury, and Dartanya.
The event was a great success. Thank you to everyone who came out to show their support! A very special thank you to all of the amazing people who helped me to produce this event! What is the Carol Galvin Women’s Cancer Foundation?
Rick Galvin is a fire fighter in NYC and founder of the Carol Galvin Women’s Cancer Foundation. Rick currently raises money for a mother with cancer in NYC. His mother actually died from cancer when he was 11. This is why he started the foundation.
Why did we have this event?
As women ourselves, we wanted to help Rick in his efforts to help women in need. We asked him to bring the event to Philadelphia, so we could help women locally. The Philadelphia “Fashion for a Cause” event was held on February 25th at Stratus Rooftop Lounge. The event was in honor of Kathryn Marie Robinson who passed away from cancer on December 4, 2015. Kathryn left behind three children and husband. Her husband, Michael, decided to donate the proceeds to other families in need. 100% of the proceeds were split between a local Philadelphia in need (who wishes to remain anonymous) and Nikki Powers, a mother battling cancer in NYC.
What took place at the event?
While Rick is a firefighter in NYC, his primary job is manager to teen pop star, Meredith O’Connor. To encourage guests to come out to support the cause, Meredith performed at the event. There was also be a fashion show featuring lines by top designers, Elizabeth Delgado of Elizabeth Delgado Desings, Bill McCall of Utopia Armoury, and Dartanya. Michelle Lee, of Michelle Lee Entertainment, was the event DJ and MC.
About The Event Producers
In order to organize this huge event between the two cities (Philadelphia and NYC), I brought together a group of women in the events industry who have the same passion for event production and love for Philadelphia as I do! In order to unite our group for this event (which we may bring to other cities), we created the Philadelphia Event Producers Facebook page. This way, we could encourage others to join us in supporting this amazing cause and share our updates from the event. As we take the event to other cities, our Facebook page also gives us the opportunity to promote our city of brotherly love.

I DJ’d this event at The Park in NYC in October 2015. It was a great event so I wanted to bring it home to Philadelphia in order to help women in our local area. I am so grateful to everyone who came out and helped to make this event a huge success! We can’t wait to do it again!

What is Fashion For a Cause?
“Fashion for a Cause” is a PUBLIC EVENT at Stratus Rooftop Lounge. Guests are not required to pay for entry. We are only asking for “donations” towards the Women’s Cancer fundrasier. Your “ticket” is your donation. If you wish to donate additional funds, you can do so by selecting “donation”.
During the event, Stratus will hold their normal Happy Hour specials 5pm-8pm ($5 Call Drinks, Selected House Wine, Selected Champagne. $8 Specialty Cocktails. HALF PRICED FLATBREADS AND SNACKS. HALF PRICED BOTTLES).

Our DJ and INSTRUMENTS unique entertainment is “dazzling” people everywhere!
This past Saturday night, part of the Sounds By Shelly team hosted a fundraiser gala for Young Audiences New Jersey & Eastern Pennsylvania. This “Mad Hot Ballroom” brought together over 350 guests who attended to support arts education.
DJ Joey Nickles was on the ones and twos, Nathan Barta was on drums, Lisa Sebastiani played along on her electric violin, and Kimmy was on the dance floor getting the party started! Yet, we weren’t the only ones dazzling the guests! The students performed two spectacular dances they learned during their YA residency. Next, the board, committee, dancer and staff members surprised the guests with a Flash Mob to Disco Inferno! To open the dance floor, four brave VIP dancers (who are prominent community leaders) were teamed up with our favorite professional dancers from the Fred Astaire dance studio to perform in “The Mad Hot Ballroom” dance completion!
