ROCK “N” ROLL NEWS: Rock Legend, Billy Joel’s Mother, Rosalind, Passes Away at 92 Years of Age!

The Following is a news message posted on the official website of Billy Joel Memorializing the life of his late mother, Rosalind:

“Rosalind Nyman Joel was born on February 15, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York, to Philip and Rebecca Nyman, who had emigrated from England. In a 1942 student musical production at City College of New York, she met Howard Joel, a German immigrant whose family had escaped Nazi Germany, in 1939. World War II would interrupt their courtship, but after Howard’s service in the U.S. Army, he returned and they married in 1946. Their son William Martin Joel was born in May of 1949. Later, the family adopted Judy, daughter of Rosalind’s late sister Muriel.

Rosalind and Howard Joel divorced in 1957, and as a single mother, she did clerical work for various businesses near the family home in Hicksville, Long Island.

In addition to an active social life, she supported various charitable endeavors. Progressing from her strong support in assuring his musical education, the son who would reach world renown as singer-songwriter Billy Joel used his grounding in classical music to help create one of pop music’s most enduring bodies of work.

His poignant song, “Rosalinda’s Eyes,” from the 1978 album, 52nd Street, is a tribute to her, derived from the family history.

Rosalind Nyman Joel passed away July 13, 2014 at the age of 92.

She is survived by son Billy Joel, and her daughter Judy Molinari; her sister, Bertha Miller; and her two granddaughters, Alexa Ray Joel, and Rebecca Molinari Gehrkin.”

TOP 40/POP NEWS: New Johnny Cash Tribute Album to Be Released on August 19^th!

Rock and Country icon, Johnny Cash released an album in 1964 titled, “Bitter Tears: Ballads of the American Indian”. It was meant to be a concept album to help the plight of Native Americans. In tribute to the 50^th Anniversary of that album’s release, on August 19th, Sony Music Masterworks will issue the album, Look Again to the Wind: Johnny Cash’s Bitter Tears Revisited. The new album will have new interpretations of original album’s songs done by Cash “disciples Kris Kristofferson, Emmylou Harris and Steve Earle, among others”. The album was recorded in Los Angeles, Nashville and was also done at the famous Cash Cabin located in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

The original release reached Number Two on the country chart, and was part of similar albums released by Cash at that point that “explored Americana, from railroad songs and cowboy tunes and other Western-themed material.” One song from that album, “The Ballad of Ira Hayes,” penned by Peter LaFarge, reached Number Three on the country singles chart.

Look Again is set to be released just days after the annual Johnny Cash Music Fest which will take place in Jonesboro, Arkansas. This year’s performers will include: Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire and Bobby Bare.

ALTERNATIVE NEWS: Tool Trying to Work Towards a New Album After Years of Being Mired in Legal Fights!

The alternative band, Tool, recently released news that their next album is yet to be completed.  Tools last album they released was eight years ago titled, 10,000 Days.

Tool band members,  Jones and drummer Danny Carey now tell Rolling Stone Magazine, they have enough raw musical ideas for an album – and one close-to-complete track – but added that “a variety of outside forces have stymied the band’s creative progress”.

They go on to say that what Tool fans everywhere do not know is that for the past several years the band have been tied un in legal lawsuits, which have greatly impacted their creative output and energy.

“The biggest problem has been a multi-level lawsuit that has weighed on all of the group members. This stemmed from a claim that a Tool associate had made against the group, but it eventually spiraled into the labyrinthine legal equivalent of a Laurel and Hardy routine, amounting to “who’s suing whom.”” The case is scheduled to go to trial in January.

“The whole thing is really depressing,” Carey says. “The bad thing is it’s really time consuming. As we’ve gotten older and our priorities have changed, it’s hard to get the band on a good, solid schedule as it is. People have kids now. And there’s lots of other things that pop up. To throw this into the mix, it makes everything that much worse and stresses people out.”

“And it’s costing millions and millions and millions of dollars to defend us,” Jones adds. “And the fans are all going, ‘We want a new Tool album. What the fuck?’ And you don’t want to pull people into your problems, because they don’t understand.

“But the point is, we’re fighting the good fight,” he continues. “We’re going to trial and we want to crush them.”

The good news for fans is that, through the turmoil, Tool’s musical songwriting core – Jones, Carey and bassist Justin Chancellor – has been slowly writing music. By the drummer’s estimation, the trio has “gotten through the toughest part of writing,” which is coming up with the raw musical ideas for songs. From there, they piece the songs together, send them to vocalist Maynard James Keenan and begin to refine them. “It’s time-consuming that way, but it has worked really well for us,” Carey says of the group’s creative process. “It gets stressful at times when outside influences are dragging you down rather than pushing you forward.”

Their current work on a new album has yielded one song which Toll band mate Jones describes as “pretty much done.” “Carey says the yet-untitled track is at least 10 minutes, in which it “goes through lots of changes and it’s got really heavy elements.””

“It’s not good when it’s done, it’s done when it’s good,” Jones offers. “We’ve been working at our own pace, but we don’t want to put out something and go, ‘This song’s fine, just put it out.’ I’m never gonna put something out where later, I go, ‘Fuck, I wish we hadn’t done that.’ We’re just not going to settle for doing anything but our best work, and the fans appreciate that.”

HIP HOP NEWS:  Hip Hop Star, “Future” to Release His Second Album, “Honest”! 

The Atlanta singer-rapper is preparing to release his “long-delayed, highly anticipated, second album Honest.”

If you’re a Future fan, it’s a little rare to hear his everyday speaking voice. “That voice has powered songs for everyone from Miley Cyrus to Rihanna to Justin Bieber to his fiancée Ciara, and it’s the not-so-secret weapon behind recent hip-hop smashes like Lil Wayne’s “Love Me” and Ace Hood’s “Bugatti.” Combining his throat’s organic gurgle with a light dusting of Auto-Tune, he connected the hard-edged underground raps of Gucci Mane’s Atlanta with the melodic weirdness of OutKast’s Atlanta – all filtered through the modern version of Zapp’s talkbox or Stevie Wonder’s vocoder.”

Future’s 2012 debut, Pluto, was filled with love songs, but “Honest (original title: Future Hendrix) bristles with confessional lyrics, and a raw, hard-edged, unpolished energy that recalls a mixtape hustler, not an android crooner.” The new album has appearances by “Kanye West, Drake, and Andre 3000”.

Future says he raps more openly these days about the pain of street life because he’s put a distance between himself and that life. “Y’all know they gonna give me a Oscar when all this shit over with, watch,” he says. “They gonna be like, ‘Now how did a rapper get the Oscar and wasn’t in the movies?'” He explains, with a matter-of-fact chuckle, “‘Cause his life was actually a movie.”

EDM NEWS: Steve Angello’s New EDM Album, “Wild Youth” to Be Released This Fall!

Steve Angello was once part of a trio named, Swedish House Mafia, which proved dance music could sell out arenas in America. Since they parted ways, Angello’s been headlining some of the biggest festivals in existence. He is now age 31, and is about to release his first album. “I’ve been working on it for almost the past two years,” he tells Rolling Stone. “It’s been more like a self-discovery than just been going into the studio to satisfy consumers.” That result, an album titled, Wild Youth, will be released this fall. It will include a collaboration with Pharrell Williams.
